The Idol of Peña Tú (the monolith of Peña Tú)
This national monument is located in the village of Puertas de Vidiago. It is a huge rock on whose sides there are paintings and carvings belonging to the Neolithic Age. There are various schematic figures and groups of dots . There are a large number of burial mounds nearby, some with funerary chambers inside. Even today, the reasons for the presence of this Neolithic enclave is a source of debate amongst students of pre history. Numerous theories have been expounded, the most well founded of which is that the rock represents a funeral monument.
ACCESS: From the road N-634 to Puertas de Vidiago, take the turning opposite the level crossing, then go up on foot for about 1km.
OPENING HOURS
The monument is open to the public all year round and there are no access charges. The guardian is there from Wednesday to Sunday from 10.00 to17.00 h.
